Can I start a butterfly garden here? Any suggestions

Hello again. We recently cut all down all the elephant ears in this little spot. (They will grow back tremendously when the weather warms up!) It doesn't get much sun; wondering if there are any shade-loving plants that butterflies like. I will have to keep a close eye on the elephant ears or they will soon take over

Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum) will grow in shade and is a favorite of butterflies. Cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis) likes wet and shade and is a hummingbird magnet. You'll need to dig out the tubers of your elephant ears to have any hope of controlling them.

@Amy , you are probably zone 9b, there are a number of plants that can work in that area. Getting your soil healthy with organic fertilizer and mulch will help plants thrive in that spot. I am in Houston and if you email me though my company website i will send you a pdf i put together about putting in a butterfly attracting garden. It is something i give to teachers and parents but would work for anyone that loves butterflies. www.ravenscourt.us there you will find a contact form...just mention i said to ask for the butterfly info. Just not sure about leaving my own email address here!
