Shutters as Window Treatments

For my living room windows I used vintage shutters on the inside as my window treatments instead of curtains. The shutters were hung on hinges that allow them to swing open all the way back against the wall. My husband altered the shutters a bit, adding to the long edge so they would overlap properly when closed and cutting them a bit shorter to look right on the window. It is my absolute favorite window treatment!
I love the European feel they bring to my living room and the fact that when open, the whole window is exposed to let the light come pouring in.

I LOVE that they can swing shut and close the window off completely, creating privacy in the evenings, and room darkening during the day if someone needs a nap.
I'm so happy with my alternative to curtains, I'd do it in every room of the house if that were possible! Come over to the blog to see more and better views of my shutters

Ingenious. I love how they look.

Great window treatment. Am thinking of this if I can get suitable sizes for a room with a dormer in my house. Curtains/draperies to just below sill, or to the floor, would look ridiculous because of height factor.
