Pinterest is a great place to look through for ideas, even decor you can make out of everyday materials:

Katerina if you posted pics of your spaces you want help with, it would be of great help to those who want to answer. As a start though, go to a bookstore and stand in front of the decorating magazines, Which one(s) are you attracted to? Back in my olden days I had a rental appt, no money, a child, a full time job and it was Xmas. I wanted to decorate my apt. I had some windows that looked out on a closed porch and no curtains. I bought red felt at the five and ten, cut it to fit bottoms of windows, fastened the felt onto a rod with metal clips and stood red candles up in the tops of the windows (I mean stood them on the frame) I remember a friend from those days who also had no money. She got a sheaf of fall leaves and put them in her window and hung a wool scarf underneath them. It was outstanding. For walls cut pics out of magazines and put them in cheap frames from dollar store or such.

the pic on left is a magazine clipping of Portland Head light which is in our town. I stuck it in a frame and it has been hanging there for over 20 years.

Slipcovers for old couches, homemade throw pillows, and fresh paint on the surfaces you're allowed to paint are all budget-friendly ways to update a space, and even a beginning DIY-er should have no trouble with them. Buy slipcovers in a solid you like, then choose colorful fabric for your throw pillows. Pull one or two colors from the throw pillows and use inexpensive accessories (vases, picture frames, lamp bases) to distribute the color around the room.

Don't overthink! Pick a theme - retro, seashore, modern, country - whatever make you feel comfy and start with that. The colors will come from your theme and so will the décor. Shop around. Don't rush. You'll find you are not as "challenged" as you think!
