Is spot-refinishing ever an option?

We have cherry engineered wood floors throughout the first level of our rather sprawling house. In most areas, the floors are in good condition, but in three areas of approx. 3-4 square feet each, chair legs and pet traffic have damaged the finish pretty badly. Do we have to sand and refinish the entire floor, or is there any way to fix just the worn spots?

  • Yes it can be done and for this I would hire a professional so they can "feather in" the old with the new.

I agree. You'll have to feather the margins to get it to match. Since the floors are engineered wood, if you aren't proficient, hire someone. Then I'd suggest slider feet for your chair legs and runners for your dog traffic. That's worked for us.
