How can I hide this?

I live in a home that was built in 1900. There has been some updating done to the house but not much. In my upstairs bathroom is this lovely drain pipe.
At first we thought we could frame it, and throw up some drywall but would take up too much room. Then maybe paint a design/picture on it , but what? Flower? Animal? Thoughts please .

angle shelves around it, incorporating the " eyesore".

Use celing tiles a a template that way you can play with width and length of shelf.

If it's running through a child bedroom. Paint a robot, fairy door to ease the cost. Heck a bead curtain would be ok. Eye hook it from the ceiling or wall. Happy hiding

If you have artistic talent I would suggest painting a vine on it. Keep it simple or it will look overdone. Maybe ivy or sweet pea...whatever might compliment your colors & style.

I would do a diamond shape around it instead of square, that may not take up so much room. I would keep whatever you put up the same color as the walls so that you eyes aren't drawn to it. on the lower parts you could leave some of it open and put some small decorative items on shelves built into it, or even something like small plants or cactus.

I think it adds to the charm of an old home. I wouldn't bother enclosing it since if God forbid you need to get to it then all your work gets destoyed. I wouldn't paint a design because it will just make it worse every time you go in there it would stick out and catch your eye. It would be helpful to see the entire bathroom so we can get more ideas going. But I like that it blends in to walls with just paint.

keep it the same color as your bath. It's fine how it is.

Just keep the pipe painted white. If you start seeing mold or condensation, you have an early warning system to check things out. Hang something attractive in that bathroom, like a frame around the mirror and a decorative flower print. That will draw attention away from the pipe. Countertops, towels, lighting, these are more eye catching than a corner pipe. Although, I really wanted to suggest a long jungle snake and plastic leaves. Best wishes 😇

how far away is it from Toilet, sink, etc? Maybe you can v it in with some fake cabinet?

I like making it into a vine, I incorporated some wire molding to look like vines to camouflage them. You could buy some of the green vines and make sort of a curtain of them in that corner and maybe a few fake flowers mixed in

This is what I did with wires

I'd hang string of multiple clear Christmas lights from the top and hang 3 or 5 narrow white lexan or plexi panels in front to make a columnar lamp to mask ever knowing it's behind there. Some panels have fern and flower inside them which is totally secondary to the glow of the many tiny lights economically lighting your room with charming effect. Cheaply enough to replace as well without excessive wiring. Possibly use paints to give stained glass too? Possibilities are endless!

You can buy the vines from JoAnn's and Michael's to wrap around the pipe. Also to be different or seasonal buy colors or vines with seasonal flowers/colors/decor on them.

I live in a 1950's apartment. We have soild old metal pipes to hold up the over hang which was a feature back then. I got tired of looking at the old peeling cracked paint so I just coverd the pipes with vines and held them in place with zip ties. It solved the problem and also stays in place because of the high winds.

I think I would have a cabinet built around it and have it come out even with the window with a door on it and a few removable shelves so you can still get access to the pipes.

I have the same issue in my house. But my pipe was exposed after removing the soffit above my kitchen cabinets. I thought that reading the replies to your dilemma would help. Personally, I think that accessibility to the pipe is a must in preventing future issues from happening. If you have the patience, try to find long slender shutters that you can attach, paint and conceal the pipe behind. You can find them almost anywhere from flea markets, to thrift shops or resale websites to name a few. For a whimsical touch, you can put themed postcards into the slanted slots for a fun distraction. It's an easy and frugal solution. It will be interesting to see what you come up with. Good luck and I can't wait to see your instructional blog about it on hometalk!

I agree with the other posts that say not to cover it up permanently, in case you ever need to have work done. You'll want to keep it accessible and even painting it may not work out in the long run if you ever have parts replaced, etc.

Instead, why not hang a pretty, narrow, maybe even sheer curtain panel over it? You could easily hang one from the ceiling and have it loosley draped over the pipe and tied back halfway down. It would liven your space, soften the corner, cover the eyesore, and yet still keep it accessible!

I would put a washable curtain, or a removeable screen type panel in front of it (instead of square), a narrow almost floor to ceiling panel pushed up against it, so it forms a triangle with the corner.
