Will power washing my old fence help or harm the wood?

    It depends on the condition of the wood and the amount of pressure you use. The stronger the more chance of damaging old wood that may already have some deterioration or dried up from age.

    my community assoc. use to power wash the common fencing and the fence is 12 years old and still standing

    It won't harm the wood per se, but it could knock down the whole fence. Assuming the fence is strong enough, power washing will remove any dirt, mildew and loose paint. Make sure the fence is not left standing in water for a long time because it will start rotting then. After it is dry is the perfect time to restrain and reseal, and I recommend Kilz, all the way to the ground or fence foundation. Best wishes 😇

    Practice with the power washer on a piece of wood using the fan setting that can cause less damage. Don't stand to close.
