If you use white chalk paint to cover oak grain on a piece of furniture , can you then paint over it with non-chalk paint and have it look nice?

If nice means smooth and slick, the answer is no. But it can look terrific as long as you understand that chalk paint has chalk or another ingredient which adds a slight texture in the finish. Let every layer dry completely before adding another layer of anything.

Don't understand why you would want to do that. Chalk paint is expensive and I have never heard of anyone using it as a primer. If you are looking for something to prime the furniture with I would suggest Kilz Adhesion Primer.

Ok thanks. I was thinking of making the chalk paint, but your advice seems like a better idea.
