How can I determine if a ceiling leak has damaged interior wall?

I had an addition put on my house about 10 years ago. For most of that time, I have had a leak at the join of the new roof with the existing house. I have tried many ways to patch the roof and stop the leak. I've just had the window immediately above the roof replaced with a smaller window. Now, I am worried that there might be water damage beneath the drywall. Is there is a way to check on possible water damage without removing large amounts of drywall?

Flashing was not installed correctly, or not at all. You can repairit yourself if you are capable of taking off roofing materials and putting up new. If not this is a job for a professional. I had a deck that was installed without flashing and we had water come down the walls inside the house until I put on flashing along with new decking material.

Call a roofer andlet him fix it for you. You couldn't, so let him do it right the first time.

If you don't have any sign of mold on the wall surface there may or may not be any damage. You cut in some small inspection holes in the wall. Aabout 4" square would work. Save the cutouts. Use a flashlight and your wife's/girlfriend's makeup mirror and look into the inspection holes for any sign of mold. Use the cutouts to patch the holes.
