All our homes are attached only separated by chain link fences. Somehow we have been invaded from this Boston Ivy and its in every garden. its just about covered my Burning Bush shrub. The one good thing about that is that it would add more red gorgeous color to my shrub.

because there are other plants involved, all you can do is cut them down as far as you can and smother the roots out with heavy black plastic

Boston ivy control outdoors can be very challenging and many gardeners will advise you not to plant ivy unless it can be confined in a pot or within a bordered space.

This plant is a notorious climber and will lock onto any surface with its trailers. Pulling ivy roughly off of surfaces can damage the exterior, as well as the plant. So pruning before the ivy starts to climb is always the best policy. However, if thatā€™s not possible, there are a few tricks for keeping Boston ivy plants in bounds and removing them from surfaces.

    How to Remove Boston Ivy:

To remove ivy from brick or wood, prune the leaves. Sever the trailers that you donā€™t want to remain on the wood or stone from the plant and then apply an herbicide. White vinegar will kill ivy in a more non-toxic manner. White vinegar will also kill any plants in the vicinity, so be sure to apply it only to the ivy itself. Once the ivy has browned, it will fall from the brick or wood without damaging the surface or any paint. You will, however, need to continue to prune the remaining ivy plant on a regular basis.

Regular mowing should eventually eliminate your problem.

Ortho used to make a product called Brush b Gone. It goes by another name now but it kills poison ivy, oak, sumac and...Boston Ivy that overruns (from someone else's yard (experience). Check Home Depot or Lowes. Comes in concentrate that is used with hose sprayer. It will not harm mature trees, but to save your burning bush, just cover it with a tarp when spraying. Wait a few days for everything to die. may need more than one application to fully kill off all the undesired ivy.

You only need to cover what you don't want to kill while spraying. Once you've sprayed the area, you can remove the tarp. As for the ivy that's tangled up with the bush, you can remove this more easily (rake, shears, etc.) once all the surrounding ivy (and roots) has been killed by the spray. Being summer, the spray will dry fast.

This is just the thing! I find this works wonderfully. You have to cut down the ivy and then brush this on the top of where you cut it. Bonide
