Try WD 40
I usually sand it until most of it is off. This article basically does the same thing, probably in a better way, but with salt & lemon juice

For rusty tools I sell on Ebay I use the electrolysis system. Espacially heavy rusted tools.

WD40 will do the trick!
This is so simple I still can't believe it works - but it does!! Buy a bottle of Coke Cola (the real brand not a substitute), get a can that will fit the tools and just let the tool soak in the liquid for a couple of hours. Then rinse off and be amazed. I've done this with can openers, my fishing filet knife, etc. Good luck. azatz@funtravels.com
