I think my butterfly bush is dead, what to do to revive it?
i live in north east ( massachusetts) we had a horrible winter. i think it killed my butterfly bush. is there anything i can try to bring it back to life?
It is a crepe myrtle.
scratch a small piece of bark off near a place where it branches - if you see green, the plant is alive up to that point.
Just give it time! We've had one for ten years. Some winters, it survives, others not so much. This time, it appeared to be completely dead (2 years ago). I cut it down to ground level, but not much came back last summer. This year, it is beautiful, not quite as big as before, but it's getting there. Now that I understand the pattern here in Zone 6, I know that my patience is usually rewarded!
Sometimes you don't! Leave it alone for a year or so if you have the patience and it may come back from the roots on it's own. I have had that happen several times in my 69 yrs. Good luck w/the patience.
