I just stick my finger in the pot a couple inches down. If dry, time to water.
Remember to have drainage holes in your containers
have a sort of plastic netting at bottom container and a pipe sticking up that you can pour water into, when water overflows from pipe, you know its enough
I found a water meter....you stick it in the soil of your plant and it will tell you how dry it is. Got my son one for Christmas and he uses his also. I usually measure the soil down about two inches in the pot and if it is low *on the meter) then it is time to water the plant. Was not expensive...got mine on an on-line place, but am sure places that sell plants have them also.
