Cut roots very short from climbing tree
@Millie42. You have a garden emergency. Hire an experienced yard worker or landscaper. You need that poison oak out of the walnut tree and the vines run back to the roots. Ask newbies if you need recommendations, and agree on the price beforehand. Best wishes 😇
I suggest dressing well, covering all area of hands and arms, then cut and pull as much of the vine off as possible. Pour ammonia at the base of poison ivy plants to kill them; I would think this would work for poison oak as well. Be sure to wash clothes immediately in hot water and wash your hands/arms/.legs well with Fells Naptha soap.
There are spray products specifically for poison ivy. They work by spraying the leaves. You don't have to get close. A garden center or box store should have it.
Suit up and start pulling it off. Or hire a service. If possible kill at base of plant with vinegar.
It's climbing a tree and we don't want to harm the tree, so yes wear gloves and a face mask or bandana and cut at base were it is coming out of ground then pour a little dawn and vinager mix on roots. Won't hurt tree cause it's big and can take it but a vine is done for.
There are also products you apply to your skin before you get even close to the poison stuff, as well as that you wash with afterwards. I discovered the very hard way that I am almost deathly allergic to the whole family of poisonous plants (which include so-called Florida Holly, actually Brazilian pepper; the sap/skin of mangoes are also prone to cause nasty rashes and blisters, as they are all one big unhappy family). I think the brand is "Technic" or something similar; found in many drug stores, Walmart, etc.).
