I have two hardwired smoke alarms that were destroyed when we moved into our new home.And yes they were live.So we capped the ends of the wires off,and now we have an ugly metal ring with a hole in it where the smoke detectors used to be.How can I fix this so this does not show up?I guess I am asking how to hide the former smoke detectors so I don't have this ugly ring with wires jutting out.We are on a budget and cannot afford an electrician.Don't worry,we have new smoke detectors.This is just an ugly hole in my wall.

you can buy round plastic covers for just that purpose at any big box store.

I used a 'blank' cover and then I covered THAT up by sticking velcro on my NEW smoke detector and plopped it up over the cover. (Easy to pull off and take down to replace battery.)

If you want "pretty" you might pick up a ceiling medallion.
