Your going to need an electrican for this, any amateur work would probably void your house insurance if you had a fire.
Is the receptacle hooked to a light switch ? We have one in our home that works only when switch is in on position.
I just went through this myself. Job for an electrician. For me, the GFCI needed replacing, which meant half the house was out and I a bad circuit that the GFCI ran on. Not expensive, call a qualified pro.
Call a licensed, bonded electrician. Don't take unnecessary risks!!
