Best shrub to grow in very shady yard?

I want to grow a shrub on either side of the porch in front of my house. It's very shady for most of the day there. What is the best shrub to grow?

what is your location?
I have very shady area next to my porch too, I planted elephant hostas. They have grown beautifully and withstand the northeast climate. Also no trimming etc
