"The best product to use on Virginia creeper is diluted glyphosate. Hold the vine away from your body and paint the product on the vine using a foam paintbrush. Be very careful not to get glyphosate on any other vegetation, as it is non-selective and will kill any vegetation that it meets"

Virginia creeper is easier to control when plants are small.

1 Pull up small plants by the roots, just as you would with any other weed. Grasp the base of the plant in your hand and pull up as much of the roots as possible. This prevents the Virginia creeper from growing into long vines that can become entangled in shrubs and other surrounding features.

2 Dig up larger, more established Virginia creeper plants, using a trowel for only a few plants or a larger shovel if you have a large patch of Virginia creeper. This method works if the vines are not tangled or growing on a tree or trellis.

3 Untangle the vines carefully if the Virginia creeper is wrapped around shrubs or other surrounding features. Keep as much of the vine intact as possible; work slowly so you don't break the vines.

4 Lay the unraveled vine flat on the ground, positioned as far away from desired plants as possible.

5 Spray the foliage with an herbicide containing glyphosate (Roundup) or triclopyr as the active ingredient. Try to keep the herbicide only on the Virginia creeper foliage and not on surrounding grass or other plants. Purchase a product with a lower concentration, such as a 2 to 3 percent solution. Leave the herbicide on the plant for two days; wait until the weather forecast is free of rain before spraying the plants.

6 Cut the Virginia creeper stem as close to the ground as possible, using a pair of bypass pruners.

7 Paint the cut tip with the herbicide if you are unable to first unravel the vines. Alternatively, you can cut the vine, leaving a 6- to 12-inch stub and push the cut end into a container filled with herbicide. With either method, the herbicide translocates from the stem into the roots.

8 Pull up any new Virginia creeper growth as soon as it sprouts to keep the growth under control. If frequent growth persists, you can cover the ground with landscaping fabric or 3 to 4 inches of mulch to help suppress new growth.

Is it in your grass or vegetable garden or flower bed? Makes a difference.

This is just the thing! I find this works wonderfully. You have to cut the vine and then brush this on the top of where you cut it. Bonide It will travel down to the roots and kill the plant. Cut it wherever it is coming back and brush that on.
