TSP/Trisodium Phosphate/Sugar Soap is commonly recommended to clean greasy, grimy surfaces in the kitchen to prepare surfaces for painting. It's so good at the job, Lowe's Hardware recommends it: https://www.lowes.com/projects/kitchen-and-dining/refinish-clean-kitchen-cabinets/project

You'll want to use gloves as it can be very drying to the hands and to rinse those surfaces thoroughly.

Some people fear that its toxic, but it isn't really.

According to LiveStrong, "Trisodium phosphate is commonly used as a food additive in the U.S., European Union and other countries of the world. It also functions as a degreasing agent, a stain remover and a general cleaning agent. Also known by the names TSP, E339, trisodium orthophosphate or sodium phosphate, trisodium phosphate is no longer used in consumer soaps and detergents because of ecological concerns."

Warm one cup of vinegar, add to one cup warm water in a squirt bottle, and add a healthy squirt of Dawn dish soap. Spray on and wipe clean.

    Amish Wood Milk!!! Works great!

I live with a woodworker. He use to build cabinets for an Amish cabinet shop, and he made all our cabinets in our home. We used Murphy's Oil soap and a scratch free pad like you would use on a nonstick skillet. It does take some work, especially on those with years of built up grease, like above stoves. But the results are worth it. After your done cleaning give them a light coat of lemon or orange oil. Wipe it on, then wipe it off, so there isn't a heavy coat of oil. Like I said it is work, but you will love the results.

My maple cabinets are over 20 years old and we have used Murphy's Oil Soap for their entire life. They looked great for their age but earlier this year we decided we wanted white cabinets so we had them professionally painted. I use mild soap and water now to clena them.
