    Make sure you plant appropriately for your zone! If you don't want to be a slave to the yard, do not use a lot of annuals (although depending on where you live you may have to go this route). Use perennials in beds where they can stay year round or come back after winter.

    Not sure if you're talking about vegetables or flowers. Either one takes some work. I have flower gardens and I make myself work in them at least 30 mins a day, even when it's unbearably hot! If I don't do this they run wild on me!
