My living room/kitchen is also small. The living room end is 15x16 and has double windows, bedroom door, and sliders to the patio. This spring I bought a couch and loveseat. At first I put the couch against a wall with the loveseat at a 90 degree angle at the end to make a sectional, but it was very cramped. Then I put the loveseat across the room at a 45 degree angle and my granddaughter turned the new 5x7 rug at an angle to match the loveseat. It's amazing how large the room looks! Also, a couple of years ago I added two shelves in the living room and staggered them, then added three shelves lined up horizontally above a bottom-half cabinet in the kitchen and that helped the visual width also. Hope this helps.

  • Mine is too. Can you grab a friend and just move things around till you find a set up that has good flow? Try and float furniture too, not everything needs to be shoved up against walls.

If your furniture is Dark use a Creamy colour. If your furniture is Light go for a soft Duck Egg Blue or maybe Warm grey, these will be a foil for other colours you may have in the room

My living room also is small....Use multi-purpose furniture...end tables/coffee tables with built in hidden storage. Also, if you haven't already bought furniture, buy smaller pieces...I have three wardrobes to provide storage [small house, so I need somewhere to store my craft supplies]. Closed storage is less distracting to the eye. Also, if you can, have most furniture blend in with the colour of the walls. Use mirrors to reflect light and make the room seem larger. Also, shiny surfaces....clear glass, chrome, metals will help the room feel larger. Furniture pieces that have the legs exposed will make the room feel larger, too. not to many colours/patterns or prints. And make sure the mirrors reflect something nice/greenery/light from a window. Hope these ideas help.

You have to float the furniture. I can't arrange it for you ...........need a floor diagram . A small room is great because it gives you a cozy feel. If the back is finished on a small desk turn it out from the wall and maybe set a large plant at the back . Sofa same or use a table half the size of sofa. Have fun.

we have a small sitting room but it has two wide doorways (one with pocket doors, the other French doors)and two largish windows. it is not decorated as advised because we had changed the use of the room and had the furniture already. We have two chairs, a sofa, a sea chest, two footstools, and a table. Also the t.v. and such apparatus but that is in an open but kind of segregated space. I know its crowded but we like and use the footstools. I like a layered look but it is definitely harder to clean a small crowded room. I have to say when a realtor came once to appraise our house she told me NOT to remove anything! So minimalism is not always the answer.
