To use Round-up to kill trumpet vine, cut the plant off at the ground and paint the fresh cut stump with full strength Round-up.

I wish I had your problem. I have been trying to find a trumpet vine that doesn't cost a fortune here in southern AL. I have 800 ft of fence I need to cover. Have you tried digging it out to the bottom of the root?

Purchased bare roots through a catalog or you can go online to order.

In ten years it has taken over, choking the life out of all the other plants

as the root will grow under the plant and then spring up flowers through

      the existing plant.

I know just how to get rid of those for we had one I killed accidently! I cut it down to the root and hit it with stump killer! It shriveled up and didn't come back....ever!

Go to your VERY BEST SPECIALTY GARDEN and LANDSCAPING store in your area. (We have a listing in Sioux Falls, South Dakota which lists the top places in our area for various businesses each year which makes searching for things so easy.) Once you find the BEST of the BEST, discuss in DEPTH, even have them come out to your place if necessary to get an actual sighting of the situation. Here on the farm, the stump killer worked wonders. I also had an old oil tank which was up against the house two years ago on a rickety platform which rotted flinging the 3/4 full oil tank into the CB foundation of the farm house cracking it! We had to drain it, remove it via a tractor and discovered a HUGE gnarly tree root attempting to grow under it also. Once I had repaired the foundation (yes, a woman can do these things) I also put the stump killer on the root of the tree which I had sawed down to just below the ground about 4" after digging around it. I really saturated it. It wasn't long before it withered and the whole thing was able to be pulled up roots and all. Hope this helps.

This is just the thing! I find this works wonderfully. You have to cut the vine and then brush this on the top of where you cut it. Bonide It will travel down to the roots and kill the plant.
