I want to add some shelves in this for storing small appliances. This has been in my family for a long time so I would like to do it without ruining it. Any ideas?
Thanks

This is easy to do. Decide what kind of shelves. Wood, wire, glass. Cut your material to the size shelves you need. The most eccomical way to add braces for them to set on, at the height you like is make them from 1"x1" slats. The braces can be attached with carpenters glue, and also with screws (be sure to use screws that are short so as to not go through to the outside of the cabinet.

Gorgeous piece. How about using adjustable folding wire racks? Or using several crates from Michael's or Walmart for height? Any wooden box will give you the extra "shelf" you need and a cubby for that small appliance. Best of luck.

You can add shelves fairly easily. Empty the hutch and clean it thoroughly. If the back is easy to take off, do so and sand and restain, if you wish, maybe even to your kitchen color. Take the other shelves out. Tape the glass inside and out but be still careful working around it. Carefully measure the height from the floor of the hutch to each shelf brace. Measure the height of your small appliances and add three inches; this will allow a 3/4" shelf and about two inches clearance. Are your existing shelf braces at heights that are useful? Can these shelves be adjustable? Can you use or add a shelf for the tallest and heaviest appliances? (If not, they need another home.) If you can add more shelves, measure from the floor or current braces to plan the height. Install all four braces for the new shelf, using a level. If there is room for another, including clearance, add another set of braces, even if you don't think you need that shelf. You can always install the shelf later. Use either already-stained shelves from Lowe's, etc. , or cut your own shelves, sand, paint, seal and install. Redo the old shelves if you want. Arrange your appliances, trying to put decorative items in front of the galas. Untape and clean the glass on both sides. Replace the back if you took it off. (Redo the front and sides if you wish). Enjoy your new appliance hutch. Best wishes 😇

Great cabinet! You can drill small holes where you can place the pegs or holders for shelves and then add any type of shelving you desire.

I pictures of how one woman added shelves without fastening braces to the inside of the cabinet or drilling holes. She cut lengths of board to the height she wanted the shelves and fastened the boards to the inside of the cabinet using removable double-sided foam tape. Then she set the first shelf on those boards. The supports for the next shelf sat on the bottom shelf, etc. You could also make each shelf stand on its own by nailing or screwing it to its supports, but her way didn't even require any hardware!

If you don't want to drill holes or make permanent improvements, buy a pantry shelf divider at a container store or in the housewares section of a department store.
