I set a small container of white vinegar (1/4-1/2 cup) in the microwave & cook for 1-2 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes then wipe clean. If really tough stuck on food use a plastic scrubbie then wipe out. Good Luck!

Peapod has the right idea. It's the safest and easiest. Another option, if you have seriously stuck ick is a product put out by Dawn called Power Dissolver. The last bottle I bought was cobalt blue, 12.8 ounces. Not expensive, but powerful. Read the label.

I agree with @Peapod51 also. It's the steam that helps loosen the grime for easy cleaning.

I heat half a lemon in the microwave for about 45 seconds and then wipe clean. The steam and juice from the lemon loosens up the grime.

I just nuke a cup or bowl of water, then wipe clean. And I've gotten some pretty nasty gunk out that way (not that what I cook is meant to be pretty nasty gunk).

I do a lot of cleaning with vinegar, so I always have a bottle lying around. I spray the inside thoroughly, then microwave for a few minutes, and wipe clean. Alternatively, you can put some vinegar water in a small bowl, put your sponge in it, and microwave until boiling, then let it sit for a minute or two to clean your microwave and sponge at the same time!
