Yes rope or jute . I like a glue gun Hot temp not lo temp. Put glue where you start the rope in the back in an unseen area, wrap the rope or jute and glue at the end. You shouldn't need glue anywhere else except the start and end.
i glued jute around the legs of a $5 wicker chair I picked up at a resale shop. The legs were in poor condition and the upgrade looked good. I used a hot glue gun and placed my dabs of glue along the back so if any squished out it didn't show. Very easy and inexpensive project.
