Give Your Old Worn Out Wood Chairs a Brand New Look!

This was a really fun and easy DIY. It took about an hour from start to finish and when I can do a complete transformation that fast it feels so much more rewarding!

I found two of these chairs at the local thrift store for $5 a piece. As you can tell the seat is completely worn out and there was no padding left at all. BUT.....the chair had a unique look and it was pretty sturdy. After checking it out a bit I realized all it needed was some of the screws tightened. Score!

We left the thrift store and headed to Walmart for some batting and material as well as a can of matching spray paint and some clear acrylic sealer.

I removed the seat by taking out the screws underneath the seat. Once I had the seat removed I spray painted the chair itself and left it to dry.
Then I laid out the material, a few layers of batting (use as much as you need) and placed the seat upside down on top. When you trim the material, make sure it will stretch around the sides and about an inch worth onto the bottom of the seat. I suggest cutting it a tad bit longer, you can always trim it afterwards, but you can't add more material.
Before you begin to staple make sure that your material is straight and centered to how you would like it on your seat. Starting on one side of the seat and in the middle of the side, staple down your batting and material. Holding the material tight and keeping it straight, continue to staple that entire side. After you have finished that side you are ready to do the opposite side. Starting in the middle again, pull the material and batting nice and tight and add your first staple. Then work your way from the center to each side holding it tight the entire time.

To do the corners, fold the material over a little bit of material at a time until you have the corner finished. Staple it down and continue onto each side that is left.
What a dramatic difference hey? I love it!
We put these chairs in our living room to help brighten it up. We had just a light beige couch in there so these really add a nice beachy feel to that room.
I still can't believe the difference - they look like they are brand new chairs!
