How much watering do you have to do for my Maple tree that's stressed?

have you fertilized the tree? Go get the tree fertilizer spikes from your local nursery. You just hammer them in dirt by the tree. Usually one spike per season. Take a sample of the leaf to the nursery with you. Sometime they can tell you what specific nutrient your tree is lacking

I see you're in Kansas. I'm assuming the weather is quite warm and your tree is very young. If the trunk is less than 3 inches in diameter, you need to build a berm about 4 inches high and about 2 feet out from the trunk. Use your hose to just about fill the 'moat'. Let it drain into the soil. Do that once a week for the rest of the summer. If you get a good rain, let it go a week. If the tree has stressed too much, it won't survive. Young trees, especially those planted off season (in the growing season) need extra care until they're established. You can also toss 1/4 cup Epsom salts into your moat every other month to see if it needs a bit of feeding.

Rule of thumb ,when trees are stressed never fertilize them.Newly planted trees should not be feed until after one year of growth.

You may need tto treat your tree with manganese, not water. "Keep an eye on the foliage in the summer — if it turns yellow prematurely the tree may be suffering from a manganese deficiency, which is common in red maples. This typically is caused by an elevated soil pH and can be treated with manganese chelate soil drench. Use 2 to 3 ounces of the chelate per gallon of water and saturate the top four inches of soil at the red maple’s root zone." Read more:
