one of the first things I would do is purchase square containers in various sizes to hold things like flour, sugar, oatmeal, baking powder, etc. Try to get sizes that will easily stack and fit in between your shelves (if shelves are not adjustable). Label each container with contents and only ever use that container when you need to replace an item. Not having any bags, round containers will make intelligent use of the space, having dedicated containers will make it easier to find items/know when you need to repurchase and should reduce the amount of shifting of stuff when cooking/baking.

It depends on what needs organizing. I have a user friendly short step kitchen (I can bake a cake by pivoting from counter/cupboard, refrig, stove.) I do not need to take a step. But this is an unusually small kitchen. I utilize every space; have shelving over the two windows and one of the doorways, the other doorway has baskets hanging in it. I make things to fit the space. A pot (as in pan!) garage was constructed to hold the kitchen fan. I hang utensils from the wall over the counter. I built a little cabinet to hold spices and small items, using the available wall space. Know yourself . . . if visual clutter annoys you, think of container use. Be realistic about the use of the space you have

I use double-decker lazy susans for spices, which I keep in alphabetical order, but I'd have to say about the most helpful thing I've used (for many years) are plastic crates about 6" high by two feet (estimated) long. They cost around $5.00 at Walmart, come with a lid, and are great for holding lids, pots and pans, etc. A prime feature in my opinion is that you can pull out a crate and access those hard-to-reach areas of your cabinet, especially corner areas in lower cabinets, so that you can slide out the crate in that space. Also, the dollar stores have lots of plastic baskets and other containers that can be used to get things organized.

I also organize clients kitchens and some of them are postage stamp sized, so I like to use the walls.... put up a grid to hang pans and utensils on, hang a pot rack or a piece of old ladder to hang pots from ceiling (be sure to anchor into studs), I like the little decorative wooden 2 shelf pieces to make a spice area near stove, and another behind stove for your oils etc., an old metal towel bar can be used to hold pot lids., hooks under the cabinets can hold cups and pot holders, and old small round curtain rod at the back of your undersink area allows you to hang lots of spray bottles, You can also use the top of your frig for storage. You can hang your microwave under a cubboard. Pinterest has lots of ideas, just type in small kitchen organization.

I use an over the door pantry rack to store spices and baking ingredients. I also use different size mason jars for my dry foods (pasta, rice). The cabinets look very neat.
