Why is wood on decorating shows stained but not varnished or sealed ?

because they are just for display and they probably aren't going to get the wear and tear involved with a real family.
I think it's a time issue....only so much gets air time....however on a few shows I have seen the varnish/ sealer step at the tail end of a segment.
They do what shows best. Not all tv projects work in real life.
Hmmm . . maybe the glare?
This does happen in homes people live in, maybe they think we don't notice
