Aloe vera plants are great apartment plants and they also need little light. Mine sit in my house by a window that I keep the blinds closed. Occasionally I will open them only when the sun is over the house or on the other side allowing it to get more indirect sunlight. Also, they rarely need watering. About once a week, I take a spray water bottle and give the top soil a good soaking. Mine are doing great! Also, I've heard lemon grass does great indoors as well. Both are air purifiers too!
Provided you have light by windows available, anything sold in stores as "houseplants" will typically do well. Even my grocery stores sell houseplants.

spider plants and pathos are fairly easy to grow as indoor plants...pretty forgiving for lugh and water
