Ideas for Some shade, some sun?

I have a flower bed in the front of my house. This bed only receives early afternoon sun and only 1/3rd of the bed receives that. So far I've killed everything I've planted there. I'm in south central Texas and looking for something colorful that I can plant and not kill, if you know of any, please let me know, right now it's just mulch
thank you, Kelly

Look for plants that takes shade for the 2/3rd of shade and part sun for the other part. Just remember that the sunny part will need watering more than the other because early afternoon sun is strong.

Try https://ask.extension.org for specific plants for your area - annuals will give you color but will require more moisture in the sunny/hot areas

Impatience is a good one, and so is Geranium is also a good one. This will also be great for your back porch area, to keep bugs from coming in, also. We didn't know this, but this is great to know. If you must, plant the impatience into a pot, and put the impatience into a pot, and you can move this as desired. Plants are a mystery just like nature is. Enjoy, and one more blessing, in the fall, cut a stem, in about 6" piece, on a angle, and then put into a pint jar. I do this with about 5-6 stems, for thru the winter, this will root, for the next yr. No more buying Impatience as long as you have the patience to do this. If you want it to root faster, then put saran wrap on the jar, and use a rubber band, to shut out the H2O, and it will root faster, also. Always use more then one, in case one doesn't make it., then you will have another one. Best wishes, J.

Kelly, if you can, try to get a Double Impatience, and this is like a double blossom and it is truly lovely. As I said, always cut the stem on a slant, and then cut more than one, in case one doesn't make it. This is wisdom, that I have learned from yrs of experience, ok? Make sure your pot, or area is large enough for a good size plant, ok? Also, don't get down on yourself, for not realizing that a Impatience can live in sun or shaded areas, we all don't know this, ok? Planting flowers is all a life changing book of knowledge, and the more we do this, the more we will understand. If you choose, do write down these bits of wisdom, in case you may want to refer to them some other time, in the yrs ahead. Just a idea. OK, did you understand, why I said to cut the stem on a slant? This will allow more veins in the stem, to gain water, and grow faster, and get a good rooting start. Have a great time, and you may also want to use a pop sickle stick on your pot, once you pot them, to remember what color they will be, when they grow, so you can plant them accordingly. Lots of wisdom, ok? Enjoy, and ask all you want, I will try to help you. Lots of blessings encluded, Judy.
