Hello Smftemple; If I were you, I would try and make a mix.
If you have any composted soil, this is perfect for a sickly plant, as all of the vitamins and minerals that are in the soil makes a huge difference.
If you do not have access to this, use: plain soil, and peat. I would mix it up really well. Repot the plant, and I would lightly water with one heaping Tablespoon of Epsom salts mixed with a gallon of cool water.
I use Violet Food, this is the BEST soil yet, for ALL plants. Very healthy, and a great mix. It is good for 6 mo., and to us, it is well worth it. This is made by Scott's. Have a great day. J.
Smftemple, make sure your pot, has GREAT drainage. This is a major factor. Many folks do not realize this, but this is essential for all plants. If you have your plants in the reg. soil, then this would not be essential, for nature will care for itself. Tho remember, this summer is a extremely hot one, so this will make a great difference, too. Best wishes, J.
The best is no soil, use only the bark made for orchids. Put your orchid in a pot with drainage in the bottom and a decorative pot for the outside with out drainage holes. You don't want it in too big of a pot, they like to be root bound to an extent. One size up only. Put the bark in the bottom of the pot so the bottom of the roots will be touching it, put the orchid in the pot and fill gently with the bark so that you do not damage the roots. Make sure the orchid is in the pot so that is as deep as it was in the old pot. Once a week fill the pot with the orchid pot still in the decorative pot with tepid water to the top and soak it for 10 to 15 minutes. Take out the orchid pot, drain both pots. until there is no water running out and put it back in the decorative pot. Orchids root in the canopy of the rain forest on the trees and survive by getting what water falls on them from rain and the high humidity that they have in the rain forest. They do not dwell on the ground in the soil. Try this and see if your orchid may perk up. There is also orchid food that you could use, but only as directed so you don't burn the roots. I was told orchids don't use soil, use sphagnum and water by using couple ice cubes on top of it.
make sure you use a orchid pot only and a orchid medium.
