DIY A Kitchen Cabinet Door Into A Towel Holder

Each month a group of blogger friends creates a project based on a theme. Our most recent theme is a kitchen item. This one stumped me. I kept going to thrift stores and the only thing I found that I thought had potential is a breadboard. But I wasn’t feeling it. Then it happened, my neighbor gave me some old boards and found a Kitchen Cabinet Door that he snuck in the pile. It was my aha moment. I did end up using another Kitchen Cabinet Door to make a towel holder.
I scrubbed it down with Soft Scrub with bleach. It came out so nice and bright. But then what, I had a hard time trying to decide but when I finally did I zoomed through the project.
I decided to use a doily to create a design on the door. To make it stiff I used spray starch, I have to tell you it was an old can so it may have lost its oomph because the doily never really got stiff.
The doily was laid on the door and I patted it into the dips in the door. Time to paint.
After I spray painted the kitchen cabinet door I had to decide on the hooks and placement. But before I could install the hooks I had to decide on how to hang it.
I used keyhole fasteners since I wanted to make sure when the door was hung it would not come crashing down. I laid a towel on the worktable and flipped it over. Place the fastener where you want it and drill a pilot hole for the screw. Screw in place. Repeat if the item needs two fasteners like my project did. Don't forget to measure so they are level.
I decided on the hooks and drilled pilot holes. Then I screwed in the hooks. I placed one on each corner on the bottom. The screws were a brass color so I carefully blocked off the area and gave them a light spray of paint.
This makes a unique towel holder for a powder room or even maybe an entryway to hold a leash or purse.
I like how the paint looks faded in some areas. It gives it an old looking patina which blends with the hooks.
