Plug stuck in plughole - Any way of retrieving it without taking away the pedistal that is underneath and stuck with sealant to wall tiles? I think the plug is brass coated with chrome, so magnet will not do it.

Hi, I wouldn't have known what to do if my Dad hadn't been such a handyman when I was growing up (and had I not been such a nosey little girl LOL), but rather than eplain it, I will send you a link (below) that has pictures along withthe explanation and this should hlep you with the problem if THIS is the type of plug you are talking about. Good Luck and thanks for coming to Hometalk for help :)

og! let me ask you this: have you tried using a magnet (a strong one) to lift the plug up so you can wedge it open until it can be repaired? ;)

below is a video in case it is a twist handle or pivot type plug we are talking about:

I would use butter, and soak the bottom with water, and let this soak over niite. In the morn, this should come right out, just fine.

I have use the tip of a knife to pry it up enough to be able to grab it and pull it up.

John, I did just answer this, tho you may also want to put butter on a toothpick, with a q-tip, and try to put this around the bottom of the pan, where the plug is at. Put something on this, that is heavy, like 2 bricks, overnite, and then check this in the morn. In fact, I would put the butter, on the other side also., for this may help it slip out easier. Best wishes, J.

If you run water on it, make it as cold as possible, hot will expand the metal and cold will make it shrink a bit and may help you pry it up a little easier. Make sure any water is removed, as having water in the sink will weigh it down some.

hello again, This problem is with a small corner handbasin in cloakroom. It has a plunger at the top that has no effect because it has corroded inside the plughole. and now the plug is stuck. I have tried a Knife and a Magnet and grease does not help, but thanks for the video link which would help if it ever happened to the bath.
