I have a very small bath, give and take demension 5x10' . Everything is old. Don't want to spend too much on remodeling it, but need updates. Here's what it look currently
Very old bathroom entrance
Out of date bath area. Thinking of removing the tub and transform it in a shower stand instead
Out of date window and boring wall.
Here's the emp wall still
Vanity and mirror are way too big for the small bathroom

Is this your only bathroom? If it is, one thing you may want to check out is if you are required to have one bathroom with a tub to sell your home. Some places have that requirement and even if you are not planning to sell, if somethung happens where you need to sell, putting a tub back in can be an expensive pain!

I would definitely lighten up and shorten the vanity, that would go a long way to making it look bigger. I would definitely downsize the mirror too, it is huge! I would make the walls light, not necessarily white, unless that is what you want. You could go with some pictures and perhaps some narrow shelves for some knick knacks, themed or otherwise to breakup the empty walls. You could also go with some type of chair rail with a colored paint or tiles below it to go with the color scheme you choose. Accessorize as you see fit with colored towels, soap holder, toothbrush holder, etc. to go with the color or colors you pick.

When you push on the tiles, do they wiggle ? Are they loose ? If not, they do not need to be replaced. Using a dremel tool with a special bit you can remove all of the grout. Put in a new coat of grout. Seal the grout. This will make it seem newer. Also, remove the caulk around the tub and put it fresh. Paint the walls.

You are lucky that the colored tile is very instyle right now. You will find teal in artwork, towels , floor mats. I agree that the vanity is really big. IF you replace anything, I think it would be that and the mirror. Good Luck!

Looks like this is your main bathroom so I would paint the vanity and the mirror frame to lighten up the room. You probably need all that storage space and mirrors make a room seem bigger. Use that teal color from the tiles in the shower for an accent color--picture frames, etc. Hang some baskets on the wall to keep all that miscellaneous stuff handy.

  • When I initially answered your question, no photos appeared. Almost identical to my master bathroom except my window is in the tub / shower. Frankly I love the large vanity as I need the storage, but it is your house, you need to be happy and comfortable. I would certainly change the countertop if possible. Just poke around here on Hometalk for bathroom makeovers and also on the internet, then incorporate features you love. Good luck!
