Don't leave bananas and other fruit laying around. And. Take any peeling straight out to the main trash.

well I have had success with a fruit fly remedy. of vinegar and dawn dish soap. I just put 3 oz vinegar and 2 tablespoons of dawn in small bowls or mason jars. They fly in but soap keeps them from flying out

Have you tried spraying Windex with vinegar on them?

Every so often we get them in our home and this spray seems to help........

Of course, you should try to identify what's attracted these pests in the first place AND immediately dispose of that item.......

It's also a good idea to keep your trash taken out and when throwing away scrap peelings, egg shells, fruit of any kind or bread put them in a plastic bag and seal it up tight before putting them in your trash can if you don't have a compost pile to put them in. You'd be surprised what draws gnats in the house and those little buggers can come in through the tiniest cracks and they breed like rabbits. I'm going to have to try that vinegar and dawn soap trick. We fight them too!

9 times out of 10 you are bringing these guys home from the grocery on your produce. As soon as you get home fill your basin with cold water add vinegar and soak your produce for 1/2 or so. Dry them off and put them in the fridge. Since I started this procedure I have not had fruit gnats. I'll be honest, I don't know if they are the same thing as 'drain gnats/flies' as I have never had them in my drains....knocking on wood.

I had the same problem. Tried vinegar, everything. Nothing worked. Bought a Raid Fly stick, It is a round sticky tube with a tiny bowl like thing on bottom, put a teaspoon of red wine in the bowl, hung over the sink. In a week there were no gnats. They cannot resist the red wine. Then they get stuck on sticky tube. We went from hundreds to none.
