Crepe myrtle -can it be moved now?

  • Depending where you live, it can . . . But I would really wait for fall to move, less shock to the tree.

    Hello Linda, I always go by the old farmer's method for moving and pruning: From Spring thru Fall, only move or prune during months that have the letter "R" in it. For example, you can move it in April but not in May. May does not contain an R. I have used this method for many years and it has always worked for me. So, that tells me that you should wait until SeptembeR. Good luck.

    i agree. Spring and fall are best for transplanting. Hot summer days can cause it to go into shock. I prefer fall, myself

    Do not move if still in bloom. They are still in bloom here in eastern NC. Anyway, Fall is best to move. Temps are cooler in the Fall which make the roots not go into shock. If you move now in Summer, it will go into shock and die. Better just to wait 2 or 3 months.
