I had this IKEA lamp which I loved very much.
But the thing is - my apartment doesn't have a lot of space. And what better way to make more room than hanging things from the ceiling.

I am sure not everyone has a lamp like this, but this idea is to simply inspire others- who knows what great things you can do to upgrade your existing furniture!
So let's assemble our gear
1. Electric drill
2. Black paint spray
3. A Screw hook
4. Garden metal wires
1. Find the spot that you wish to hang the lamp from.
For me it was this in wall shelf. But obviously any where close to a power outlet is good.
2. Disassemble the lamp
3. Find the length and amount of wire you need to hang the lamp - make sure that the material you use for the wire suits the temperature that the lamp projects
4 .(Optional)Just for fun, I painted the hook in black - I find the silver to be too shiny
5. Drill a hole in the ceiling:
I found that the spot to drill is right in the middle of my in wall shelf. This way there is room between the lamp and the two surrounding walls.
(In my case is was impossible to tie the wires to the hook when its screwed - so.... step 6 & 7 )
6. Screw the hook.
Make sure it can take the weight!
7. Unscrew the hook, tight it to the wires from step 3
8. Take every thing into place - make sure to do so slowly and carefully.
9. Enjoy the light and the space :)

Why not just set the lamp on the shelf? If too tall, couldn't you cut it (or fold it accordion style) at the top?

Where do you find the column lamp shade. Have been looking for one for years.

Why couldn’t you pull the wire out the top of the shade and make it a swag lamp? The wire would hang from a second hook and run down the wall.
