Michaels and Hometalk Pinterest Party!

Hometalk (a home and garden social network) contacted me and asked if I would be interested in being the featured blogger in my area for the Michaels and Hometalk Pinterest Party!
What? Who? When? Me? ummmmm…………………….. OF COURSE!
For the party, Michaels and Hometalk have selected Pinterest crafts for customers to make at their local Michaels store. Crafters can head to Michaels, check out the Pinterest inspired displays, buy the supplies, and meet in the classroom to create a pin-worthy project. I get to craft along with everyone and take some pictures of the event!
There are parties happening in Michaels stores all over the US (you can see the list here). I will be joining the party at the Michaels store located on Twixt Town Road in Marion. Join me on February 16th from 1:00 – 4:00 to craft some fun projects!
I encourage you to join Hometalk! There are so many great ideas and tons of inspiration to be had on their site. With this Pinterest Party, they are holding a giveaway for anyone who followsMichaels on Hometalk. Enter to win a $100 Michaels gift card! Five winners will be announced on Hometalk’s FB page on Feb 17. Start following! When I went to my local Michaels to pick out my project, the first one I saw was the burlap canvas. Since we all know I love burlap, I decided to go with that project. The supply list for this project called for black Gesso. I have never used Gesso before so I was excited to try it. To start my project, I laid the tree stencil on the burlap canvas and used a foam “pouncer” to apply the Gesso over the stencil.I thought the Gesso was just like working with craft paint. If I didn’t have Gesso, I would use craft paint on this project for sure.Once I removed the stencil, I used a paint brush to fill in some of the spots that weren’t as saturated as others. Now, I wanted to brighten up the canvas. I am longing for spring and some warmer weather (and NO MORE WHITE SNOW) so I wanted to make this canvas look like spring. I picked up some bright buttons and put my Cricut to work.I used my Cricut to cut out the words, “our nest” and also a bird figure. What says spring more than birds and nests? I put the buttons all around the canvas like they were buds on the tree.I clipped a few twigs off a bush in our front yard and used them to make a nest on the canvas. I used my hot glue gun to attach everything to the canvas.I added four “eggs”/buttons to the nest to represent the number of people in our family. This was a fun project to do! It makes me think that spring and warmer weather really could happen some day.
