Decorating advise ideas?

We are moving into a condo and there is a den connected to the kitchen.
I want to tie that room in with the kitchen so it is like one space.
The walls are going to be painted a light gray. The kitchen is white with black
handles ,black granite and SS appliances. The back splash is white subway tile with a light
streak of very light gray. I will be buying a couch and possibly a chair.
There will also be a TV so I will need something for that. I am thinking
something on the light side for a couch with maybe a nubby type fabric linen and gray weave for something like that and and a cute accent chair.
with maybe a print in similar colors. right now I have a cute love seat in a red and beige stripe which I will use temporarily. I like it but my husband wants a couch so he can lay down. The fixture is being replaced by a fan. I really need some ideas other than mine.
Thanks,
Cathy

You didn't say if there was a dining area, but, this would be perfect for that. I've seen many dining rooms that are adjacent to the livingroom that make more sense as more of the livingroom. If you just want seating, how about a sectional? Some of them have a chaise section that is perfect for stretching out. I would keep the furniture fairly neutral and add color with throw pillows and throws, since those are less expensive to change out when you tire of them.

It is used as a dining area or a den it depends on your needs. In our case

we are retired so we will most likely just sit at the counter we

are on a river and can see right out to the Marina from there. Also

weather permitting we have a patio so we would probably eat there most of the time. There is a dining room

adjacent to the living room so we will have that for company. The living area and dining room face the water so we want to take advantage of that

view. I would like a sectional, one of the units we saw had that but it would have to be on the smaller side. I do want to keep it neutral and lighter hopefully painting it a lighter color will accomplish that.

      Thanks for your thoughts.

The most important thing .... the far wall with the window ... paint the soffet the same color as the wall!

I think the window wall would look great with some painted beadboard to add texture and depth. A corner cabinet would look great and might fit a TV ?

A sofa would probably be on one of the side walls with the TV on the other. I'd get a narrow console table behind the sofa up against the wall. Then you could put up some lamps or accessories with a mirror behind the accessories. Hang the mirror on the wall.

Good idea on the soffet. I hadn't thought of that. I am going to put beadboard in the bath rooms. I am thinking the same type of setup

you mentioned. Thanks for your ideas.

I think I would opt for a darker gray sofa with 2 cushions if hubby likes to stretch out. The 3 cushion ones split right at the butt, and constantly fall out. You don't mention if you have kids, but a light sofa could be a disaster with kids.

I also think I would opt to change that light fixture, maybe to a drum shade style since the chandelier looks like a dining area... https://www.wayfair.com/Mercury-Row-Bensenville-3-Light-Drum-Cylinder-Semi-Flush-Mount-MCRW4715.html

I was debating that about the sofa's We have always had the 3 cushions but in looking at them I have seen a lot of the 2 cushions so that could be an option.

We are retired no kids but 4 grandchildren boys! they will visit but mostly we

go to their home. We are moving to be closer to them. I am putting a fan instead

of the fixture that is there. Thanks for your ideas.

We have always had 3 cushioned sofa's but I have been looking at the two cushioned ones and may go that route instead.

We are retired with no kids at home but do have 4 Grandchildren all boys!

They will visit but more than likely we will go to their home. We are moving to be closer to them and help my daughter out.

We are switching out the fixture for a fan in that room.

    Thanks for your ideas.

To me the space looks like it was for a dining room with the Chandelier that is in the room. If you want it as a family room, I would definitely change it to a nice fan with a light that doesn't hang down to bean someone in the head. I would stick with neutral colored furniture also with accent pillows, if you can fit in the love seat coordinate the accent pillows with the colors in it. The possibilities are endless.

It is in some units that is why the Chandelier is there. That is being moved

and I am putting in a fan

      .

      Thanks

Good start.......bring a color in the curtains, pillows or rug in a dark blue and/or periwinkle blue. It's a hot color with grey and neutrals.

    Sounds good! Thanks
