This is an easy project to make and cheap, it cost me nothing. The outcome though is awesome and this can be used indoors or outdoors, left natural or painted to suit your taste.
I started this project by first finding my inspiration , these pieces of wood that were cut from a log. If you cannot find anything like this a cheap round wooden cutting board from the dollar store would work also. Next it was some wire and my cordless drill.
If you have a vise I would recommend using it to hold your wood when you are drilling. If not you can hold it. You are going to drill two holes 3 centimetres apart. After those holes are drilled you are going to drill two more holes 1/2 centimeter apart, inside the two initial holes. So you should have 4.
Moving in a clock ways direction start your next set of holes 1 inch away from the last hole. Continue with the pattern moving around the wood.
Next take your wire and cut into 17 inch pieces. I used 11. This will vary on the size of your wood. Next cut another set of wire 13 inches in length.
You are going to take the long wire and put into the two outer holes of your sets of four. Continue to do this all the way around.
Once completed it should be looking like this. Next take your 13 inch wire and start putting them inside the two remaining holes where you put the longer wire. Again continue all the way around.
With both sets of wire in place it should now look like this. Your wire should be the same size as the holes you drilled. If you find they are not staying in place you can go with a glue gun and add some glue around each hole.
Next I added a little photo frame hook I had. If you don't have one you can make one using small piece of wire and staple gun. Flip over, I added a little bit of stain to the front. This is optional, you can leave it natural or paint it to suit your style.
Here is what it looks like stained.
Here it is on my front porch. ( For those of you who seen my dragonfly post you may recognize my porch, my dragonfly has moved to the other side of the door. They compliment each other well.
