Its a sofa sleeper I brought used it did not have any pillows. I brought pillows maybe they are too small. I am uncomfortable sitting on the couch. It like there is not enough support.

I used to have one and know of no way to make the sleeper sofa more comfortable. I always suspected it's the feel of that mattress support . Your fanny actually feels that bar.

I have a 'higher end' futon now. The only thing the futon has going for it is you don't feel the mattress support bar. But, the great thing is when I have an overload of family, it works for sitting and sleeping. As to how much more comfortable the futon is over the sleeper for the sleeper, I don't know.

When used for that purpose, I add a foam rubber topper. And the beauty is, I can store the bedding inside.

we have put a piece of plywood under the pillows on a sofa bed so when you sit on it you don't feel the bars. When we use it as a bed we also use an "egg carton" foam topper. The couch is firm but is much more comfortable than sitting on the metal frame and pillows. This also helps a sagging sofa. Hope this helps.
