The brand of paint you use is less important than the prepping done to ready it for paint. Most paints today are of good quality and cost is not necessarily an indicator of quality. The most expensive, or the cheapest paint will leave you with problems if the surface isn't properly prepared. Once you know the color you want most paint brands can be tinted to match your color choice. So look for sales on exterior house paints at local stores. Having said all this, my go to paint of choice is Kelly-Moore.

It really depends on the sun and weather conditions that your home is subjected to. I would recommend going to a paint store and asking questions. Once they make their recommendations, I would price out similar products.

Most any name brand is good today. Painters have their favorites. Behr from Home Depot, (my choice) Sherman Williams. Lowe's. The main thing is to prepare the house first. Scrap all the lose paint, hose off the dirt, etc. If you don't do that, no matter what paint you use, it'll be awful in a few years. Make sure you use an OUTSIDE paint. Unless you are going to radically change the color, you don't have to use a primer.

Cleaning, caulking, repairing are all steps prior to painting. I paint houses and prefer Clark Kensington Exterior paint in their satin finish. EXCELLENT paint. Goes on perfectly and has held up very well here in sunny, hot, humid Florida.

    Best of luck.

  • All great suggestions here! I personally prefer a proper paint store and to prime first then paint AFTER all the prep work has been completed. Again a personal preference, but the paint jobs have held up for 20 or more years in some cases, faded yes, but still there. Here are a couple links with helpful tips and things to consider to make the job easier! Good luck and have fun!
