Fix boring art?

This art piece is boring. Has anyone ever taken a color and just kind of thrown it on the art to make it prettier or a little interesting? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. PS, that's my grandson Luc and my shih tzu Grady!

Its not so much the art work .You need to add color to the room with accessories.Bright pillows, throw pillows, flowers, knick knacks etc.

Sure a lot of artists use already painted canvases and just paint right over them. Good luck!

I agree with Janet..I think the painting would look completely different if the walls had some color, et.

I would search for another picture because the picture is modern and your sofa is traditional, and it tend to blend in? may be buy throw pillows and choose a color from them for a painting and the rule of thumb fir hanging a picture over the sofa is 8" to 10" from sofa back.

You wouldn't make it worse if you tried that! If you don't like the splatters, drag the edge of an old credit card over them before it dries. If you still don't like it, you can paint over it and let Luc do some fingerpainting. You could go to Shutterfly.com and have a canvas made from a picture of Luc and put that up instead, if all else fails! Have fun!

  • Grandson and doggie are both adorable! You picture is hung just a tad too high, I would lower it some too. To brighten it up, I would dry brush on some metallic paint to highlight a few areas - something like a tarnished silver, old gold, bronze or even a rose gold or copper color. Choose 3 and give it a go!

The picture is too high. It shouldn't be more than about 12 inches above the sofa. The walls, sofa, etc. are too bland. Everything in the room is the same color. Maybe you could frame the picture out? Some colorful pillows would help too.

.Choose colours that POP and suit your style. Use a 2" Brush and Flick Paint at canvas whilst it is laying on the floor on top of Tarpaulin. Use Emulsion Tester Pots, because if you don't like it, you can wipe it off

Had another thought - You could have it Framed with Door Trim and Paint that!!

Handprints and footprints of that beautiful grandchild! Whatever color or colors you choose! Right on the canvas!

I would dry brush some color into it. With dry brushing, you can add more color as you go. If you just splatter it and then hate it, you can't take it off.

BTW, I love everyone's ideas, but why not have little fun with some existing artwork?

I think fine detailing with some gold paint could liven it up :)

Yes! I remember watching one of those weekend decorating shows. The designer bought paintings at the thrift store, and changed the colours to coordinate with the decor and to enliven them.

If you want to go super bold, you could add a few brush strokes (or dots) of a bright colour like red, paint the frame the same colour in a gloss and balance with a couple of pillows or lamp shades.

I agree that you need to lower the painting.

definitely red. Add some cool red pillows....and I LOVE the baby footprint and handprint idea! Even doggie prints :) Some non toxic paint? Some cute tootsies...and there you go !! Also..a bright red Frame and Voila !

Just a thought, paint the wall behind the couch a steel gray, it will pop the white couch lamps and art.

Hi Sherry, you also might want to hang the art lower, it will help give the room a connected look.

Find fabric you like in the size of the picture + 6" of additional fabric all the way around. Using a staple gun, staple the fabric over the existing frame and fabric. Trim the excess fabric off so it sits flush to the wall.

I would get a frame 3 or 4 inches larger than the picture. Ornate. Silv, gold, or whatever goes with your decor. Put a mat behind it in a co- ordinating color pulled from the artwork.
