It is probably slugs or snails causing the problem.. Put cheap flat beer in a bowl or saucer. They are attracted to it, fall in and drown. Or place something rough like eggshell around the plants, their soft bodies do not like to crawl over the rough texture. If it is not snails or slugs, there is a company called "Safers" and they make a line of insecticidal soaps that work quite well, used them myself, and they are harmless to the environment, pets, people etc

It is most likely slugs or snails. Here are a few suggestions: Place saucers or bowls of cheap, flat beer in your garden and leave overnight. The snails will be attracted to the smell of the beer and climb into the container, where they will become intoxicated by the alcohol, fall in and drown or if you do not like wasting perfectly good beer on your garden snails, you can also make similar traps using grape juice or water mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of yeast and a tablespoon of sugar. Or yo can sprinkle crushed egg shells around your plants or something else that is course. There soft bodies do to crawl over them. Good luck

Depends on the bugs. I have successfully tried soap spray (about a quarter of liquid soap with three quarters of water) on my plants that were infested with aphids. I don't know if it works with other type of bugs.
