Do you have a "game closet?" Where the games put away? You could add shelving to the closet and put them in there. I have seen where people get those farm wooden creates...they are used to carry veggies in....you can get a couple of those turn them on their sides, securely attach them together stacked. Then drape a cloth that matches your decor.
Lots of people are selling TV armoires and even DVD cabinets on Craigslist, or donating them to places like the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, at least in my area. You could probably find a nice one for a good price. You might need to add shelves, but it would still be less than $400.
Storage cubes and/or storage coffee table. ;)
I think the best solution is to contain them in the CD DVD books that you can buy. you can take the front of the CD off and put in each pocket with the CD that's going in the pocket. This also works great if you have a gamer in your house.
I found a really cool idea online to hide valuables in plain site that would work for you too. The idea was to cover items with books. The books were glued together and then they used a table saw to cut off about 2" from the spine of the books. You put your valuables or whatever you want to hide and put the book spins in front of them. It gives a very nice bookcase look and no one would guess that you are hiding valuables or DVDs.
