How do you keep ground hogs from your garden?

We always had a beautiful garden and then a groundhog family moved in. i think they thought we built the garden for them. Very frustrating. We did plant items on our back deck and they are doing great, but we would really like our ground garden back.

There is a non poisonous granules called "Critter Be Gone" I got it at home depot it seemed to work , he didn't come back this year
