What to Expect When Washing and Drying Burlap

There are various opinions on the ideal method for washing and drying burlap. Machine washing and drying is often considered a no-no, but I had to give it a try for myself nonetheless. Unlike washing most other fabrics either by hand or machine, burlap involves extra care and the results can be a bit precarious. These are the steps I took and my findings.

Unlike washing other fabrics, there are quite a few challenges involved when washing burlap.
When washed in a machine, the burlap can unravel and tangle beyond recognition.
All may not be lost, though, you can usually salvage most of the burlap by cutting off the tangled parts.
Different methods of drying the burlap have given me various results
Ironing the burlap after washing several times seems to work out quite well. The unraveled parts can leave a fringed edge that can be kept on or trimmed off.
