I would think that home depot should have the wax. Not to put too fine a point on it, but having the right ingredients to complete a project is important. Now that the furniture is painted, you could let it rest until you find the wax, and as long as you don't put anything wet on it, it will keep. The clear wax is a protectent, and doesn't change the color of the project, other than giving it a bit of a sheen, so enjoy it as it is and wait until you can fine the wax. Congratulations on your first chalk paint project! Be proud of your accomplishments!

@Donna Narciso You can use Johnson's furniture wax. I like just using a poly acrylic.

You can use min wax wipe on poly for dark colors or poly acrylic of the light colors...both are available at the hardware stores

In my opinion there is only one chalk paint, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and you need her wax. Go to www.royaldesignstudio.com and order your paint online and you will have it in days! You will love it!
  • I would think that using the Minwax Paste Wax or Johnson's Finishing Wax would be just fine. The most important step is protecting the finish (and your hard work!).

I have Anne Sloan clear wax, however, I have also used Johnson Paste wax on projects and did not find it yellowing at all and left a protective cover for my projects. You may experience different results, I don't know, but it worked for me in a pinch.

For a clear durable finish I use Poly acrylic. It does add a layer of shine though but it will protect it from water ring marks. I bought a small can for less than $10 at Lowes. I'm sure they have it at Home Depot as well.
  • Hi @Donna Narciso! Congrats on your first chalk painting experience. I just want to let you know, while wax does provide a beautiful finish, there are reasons you'd choose a clear coat, such as Polycrylic instead. Wax requires maintenance. You will need to re-wax your piece periodically and if you are using a solvent based wax, that can be a job! For high traffic pieces, I prefer a clear coat. There are many options out there and all will work just fine with any brand of chalk style paint! All the best with your finishing step!

    • @Donna Narciso No, you can't use a clear coat over the wax. Wax would prevent the clear coat from adhering. In the future, you can use a clear coat then use the dark wax over the top of that for the effect. Hope that helps!
