A Whale of a Project!

This summer, I have been so busy with projects that I keep forgetting to take photos and write about them! But these are so cute, I thought I would take the time to share. I create these Tin Whale Signs using wood, tin, copper and paint. Here's the how-to:
I used the tin to cut out whale shapes...you can see the complete process on my blog site: https://countrydesignhome.com/2017/07/31/gone-fishing/
Once I traced the pattern, I cut the tin into strips- this old tin is so thin I can cut it with scissors!
Once the pieces were cut, I painted them using different shades of blues. Each whale is unique- sometimes I don't paint the tin at all. That's the best part about paint- you can change everything with just a little : )
After I painted the pieces, I sanded them back down to allow the tin texture to shine through.
I applied all the painted sections to the wood panel using tacky glue- I especially like this one because it is clear and has very little odor.
I finish the whales with whatever embellishments strike my artistic fancy- I use vintage hardware, jute rope or whatever I have on hand to create one-of-a- kind pieces.
Here are the coastal whales hanging on our shop wall along with many other painted and finished pieces. I love blue, can you tell?? For the full tutorial, please visit: https://countrydesignhome.com/2017/07/31/gone-fishing/
