One Solution for a Rusty Metal Stool

I had left a vintage green stool out in the weather on our deck for way too long. The top was rusted and not the good kind of rusted. I did figure out a pretty cool way to fix it though....... for $7!
I found the stool at a yard sale for $3. I think I fell in love with the shade of green color on the spot. First I tried to sand the rust off the top . When that failed miserably I stuck the stool out in our garage until I had a better idea.
The above photo is post sanding. It actually looked even worse. A few days later I ran in to my neighborhood grocery store to pick up a couple of thingame when I walked by the Summer Cookout section and inspiration struck!
it struck in the form of a $6.99 round bamboo cutting/ cheese board. When I got it home it was the perfect size. It happened to be about 4 inches bigger that my little rusty stool top. So the cutting board hung over the edge of the stool top two inches all the way around.
We used three metal screws to hold the new top to the stool base. We were very careful not to let the screws go all the way through the pretty new top though.
